AI Opens Trove of Medieval Jewish Records

Researchers in Israel are leveraging an AI tool to catalogue and transcribe more than 400,000 documents that make up the Cairo Geniza, the world’s largest collection of medieval Jewish documents. The MiDRASH transcription project involves researchers from several universities and institutes training an AI model to read and transcribe the texts from the National Library of Israel’s digital database. The goal is to make it easier and faster for researchers to access and analyze the texts.
